Our Mission

Community Educational Services engages and educates youth to positively transform themselves to build a brighter future for all communities.

Our Vision

CES envisions that Chinatown residents, parents, school, organizations, businesses all contribute to raising young people to be active and caring participants in a democratic community. We envision a community that provides holistic, interrelated experiences that strengthen the mind, body, and spirit, and that encourages an active participation and sense of leadership in life. We see Chinatown as a model and engine for how communities can come together to develop competence, confidence, involvement, and connection within its children and youth. With our roots in Chinatown, CES also sees a need to reach out to extend our sense of community involvement to other neighborhoods and schools.

Who We Are

Community Educational Services (CES) is a non-profit agency that is dedicated to youth development in San Francisco's Chinatown and various San Francisco neighborhoods. CES was created in 1969 by young activists to address the educational, employment and leadership needs of immigrant youth. Since its inception, CES has expanded its services to serve over 2,500 low-income K-12 children and youth across San Francisco. Within Chinatown and at 4 elementary and 7 high schools across the City, CES provides a wide range of services including: environmental education, arts & cultural enrichment, career exploration, college guidance, counseling, employment, health and wellness, mentoring, and tutoring and homework assistance. CES partners with schools across the City to increase respect and community among students and teachers; involve students in school change; develop career academies; train teachers to utilize youth empowerment strategies; create collegial support for school principals; and coordinate the efforts of multiple agencies at school sites.
